We were staying at Polynesian Village Resort for our 10th anniversary. I had wanted to try Kona Cafe for the coffee alone, somehow we ended up at breakfast there twice in 2 days.
I had perused the menu before hand, so of course I knew I wanted the press pot Kona coffee. The Macadamia Nut Pancakes were calling my name and I would have bet money that my husband would order the Samoan. I was right.
The Macadamia Nut Pancakes came with pineapple topping and macadamia nut butter. On they side they brought maple syrup and strawberry sauce.
His Samoan was described as poached eggs with Hollandaise sauce over pulled pork hash. It looked so lovely even I had to try a bite and I’m not a fan of any of the ingredients. It was delicious.
We had to try their press pot Kona blend coffee. It was dark, rich and a little bitter. I noticed they also served Joeffrey’s Kona blend coffee brewed normally so I ordered that the next day. They didn’t taste much different except one had free refills. We also couldn’t resist the Liliko’i Juice, elsewhere known as Jambo juice or POG. It’s everyone’s favorite blend of pineapple, orange and guava. We used to be able to buy a version at the grocery by Bolthouse Farms but now we can’t find it anywhere, so I’ll order it any chance I get.
The next morning we stopped by again before checking out of the hotel.
My husband had the Egg White Omelete with roasted red peppers and goat cheese and a gorgeous side of fresh berries. He also ordered the oatmeal which came with brown sugar and milk on the side. I had the two eggs any style with a side of bacon and home friend potatoes. They didn’t taste like the powdered eggs served downstairs at Captain Cook’s.
I would obviously eat there again if I stayed at the Polynesian, but I don’t think I would drive from another resort just for Kona Cafe. The food was good, but nothing I dream of when I’m not there.
